Design is more than just something pretty, or provocative, or inviting, or elegant; it is embedded in the very heart of each of us. Everything is designed, our every decision is weighed against another possible outcome. We each do this unconsciously, without deliberation or any training whatsoever.

This consciousness separates the designer from everyone else. The designer is deliberate, conscious of each choice, careful in his execution. Sometimes a designer may spend a day choosing a color virtually indistinguishable form another. Much as a poet will spend two hours debating the inclusion of a comma, only to spend two days debating whether to remove that same comma.
